Mortality insights
The mortality insights dashboard shows respiratory disease mortality rates and how these differ across England.
About the data
Mortality from respiratory disease indicators are published by the Office for National Statistics, Office for Health Improvement and Disparities. Respiratory disease is one of the top causes of death in England and smoking is the major cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), one of the major respiratory diseases. These indicators focus public health attention on the prevention of smoking and other environmental factors that contribute to people getting respiratory disease. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) uses software to automate the translation of cause of death information on death certificates from text to International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes, and to select the underlying cause of death.
